The Barrow Series was developed during an artist residency in Ireland at the beginning of 2020. The work is based on a small prehistoric burial mound, the Great Heath Barrow, located in County Laois. It’s a ring barrow—a small mound encircled with a ditch and a second ring mound on the outside. The structure almost resembles a ripple in water, which is what I wanted to explore through these drawings. As each drawing progressively zooms in on the barrow, the static object gets reimagined as a moving form, eventually liquifying into a whirlpool and revealing a portal of light at the center.
